Product Information

Q: What is Dynamic Positioning?
ROV Dynamic Positioning (DP) maintains ROV position and heading by using the thrusters. This allows operations at depth and in high currents ignoring tether and current effects. Dynamic positioning may either be absolute in that the position is locked to a fixed point over the bottom, or relative to a moving object or a fixed structure.

Q: Why Do We Not Use Acoustic Beacons and Aids?
Unfortunately acoustic beacons and aids do not provide updates with sufficient accuracy and frequency to enable stable DP. However, if stability was not an issue they could be easily accommodated.

Q: Do I Need to Use a Gyro?
No, gyros are optional. A Doppler with a magnetometer compass and a depth sensor are needed. A gyro ensures improved performance, especially when operating close to large metal structures.

Q: What Happens When the Doppler Loses Bottom-Lock?
The system continues operating, but performance will be slightly compromised. The navigation computer inside SeeTrack Offshore is capable of dealing with irregular and infrequent Doppler outages. However, if the Doppler loses lock completely the system will revert to normal operation without SeeTrack Offshore.

Support Information

Q: When using the chart overlay feature how does the system know its real world position?
When using the chart overlay, the ROV will take a HIPAP fix (or other - if available) at launch. The system will then dead-reckon until the pilot manually commands another HIPAP fix after ensuring that the fix is trustworthy, a counter tells them the time since last update. SeeByte envisages that the pilot will request a fix every half-hour or hour, depending on the type of work.

Q: What level of documentation is provided with the system?
The following documentation is available with the system:

Q: How can I report a bug within SeeTrack or an error in the documentation, or submit a feature request for a future version of the product?
You can submit bug reports, documentation errors, and feature requests by emailing offshore.support@seebyte.com

SeeByte software engineers review these reports and do their best to address these requests in the next product release cycle.
