Virtual Demo of Tidal Mixing Front Tracking Has Been Successfully Completed

The final trial of the AAOSN project, a virtual experiment with 12 vehicles (6 gliders and 6 surface vehicles), tracking a tidal mixing fronts has been successfully completed. There was 6 pairs of vehicles, each comprising of one glider and one surface vehicle, which tracked and crossed over the front multiple times to gather sensor readings (temperature, salinity, oxygen levels, chlorophyll).

The image above shows the unmanned vehicles positions on satelite thermal data overlayed onto a map running in SeeTrack. The vehicle’s sensor readings provide a more accurate position of mixing-fronts than can be observed via satelite imagery.
